The original 1000-square-foot, 2-bedroom house was remodeled to add a third bedroom and bath. The kitchen was expanded to open into the living room. A modern accessory structure was constructed in the corner of the backyard. The dramatic roof shape was a creative solution to the planning constraints for accessory buildings. The original house on the property dates to 1904 and is a wonderful example of a home on the Historic Registry of Palo Alto. The cottage was designed to fit seamlessly into the mature backyard landscape. The golf course theme included the client's request for grass-green carpeting. A casual floor plan overlooks beautiful views into the tree-covered hills of Woodside. The new home incorporates important features of the existing floor plan, while adding additional spaces required by the owner. The floor plan benefits from a strong relationship to the backyard with large picture windows and easy access to the pool and patio areas.
